Japan Marine United Corp
Japan Marine United Corp has a long history of achievement domestically and internationally desinging and building large tankers, large buik carriers, and LPG/LNG carriers. Our each shipyards have three dimensional CAD systems, automatic steel-material cutting machines, and CAM/FA systems and automatic welding/coating robots which ensure high productivity, high accuracy and reduce the project timescale. High-speed digital LAN connects shipyards creating a organization-wide CIM system with integrated CAE, CAD, FA, and other production control system..
JMU was created by a merger of two companies in 2013, Universal Shipbuilding and IHI Marine United, which were the leading companies in Japan’s shipbuilding industry. Both companies possessed outstanding design/development systems and impressive track records in actual ship construction. Taking full advantage of these high technological capabilities, JMU aims to strengthen the competitiveness of its 4 core business areas and improve its profit performance, thereby establishing a position as the top company in the shipbuilding industry and realizing a strategy for further growth.
Merchant ship and Offshore work
JMU’s merchant ship division possesses the world’s top class technological resources and shipbuilding equipment, and is contributing to the progress of maritime logistics, which is the main artery of the global economy, through construction of diverse types of ships. JMU products include tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, liquefied gas (LNG/LPG) carriers, and ferries, among others. In recent years, the need for preservation of the global environment has become increasingly urgent, particularly in the areas of air/marine pollution and prevention of global warming. On the other hand, in response to the sharp rise in the price of crude oil and increased operating costs, customers now demand user-friendly ships that satisfy a diverse range of requirements, including failsafe quality and safety, as well as excellent fuel efficiency and environmental performance. Utilizing our independent research center and accumulation of high technological capabilities, JMU was among the first to grapple with the development of low energy consumption, low environmental load technologies. We are working to earn an excellent reputation as the leading company in this field from customers throughout the world by close marketing that identifies the real needs of customers, and supply of ships with outstanding performance and quality that meet those needs on timely basis.
Offshore energy resource development is also becoming increasingly important, responding to the rising need for energy in recent years. In this field as well, JMU is making wide-ranging contributions to offshore development around the globe through construction of offshore structures such as Floating oil/gas Production, Storage, and Offloading facilities (FPSO/FSO), drilling and production equipment (jack-up rigs, semi-submersible rigs, jackets, drill ships, etc.), and floating structures for offshore wind farms, as well as construction of offshore support ships and various types of work vessels.
Engineering
To enable wide use of new technologies by customers, JMU’s engineering business not only performs actual construction, but also provides construction support at shipyards in Japan and overseas, as well as design support for design/improvement of floating structure equipment for the gas industry, etc. and semi-submerged drilling equipment. In all these engineering businesses, we make full use of the design and construction technologies for ships and offshore structures developed by JMU to date, as well as the most advanced design and construction technologies. One particular example is the advanced IHI-SPB tank®system for LNG carriers. The company is also actively engaged in the development of electric propulsion ships using energy saving technologies such as contra-rotating propellers (CRP), etc. and the renewable energy use field, for example, floating bodies for offshore wind farms, etc
Life Cycle
Our Life Cycle Business provides many solutions and services demanded by customers in the area of ship life cycle, from in-dock repair, running repair offshore, inspection of onboard equipment and supply of parts, by making the maximum use of JMU’s global network, which includes JMU Group companies in Japan and other countries, as well as overseas shipyards with which JMU has tie-ups. JMU also answers customers’ needs by realizing reduction of environmental load through retrofit for ballast water management system, use of low sulfur fuel and emission control, realizing further energy saving operation, and providing high quality maintenance services to enable longer, more economical use of ships. These are all part of JMU’s total support service for the entire ship life cycle.
